OBITUARY: James Arthur “Art” Kielhorn
James Arthur "Art" Kielhorn, 93, peacefully passed from this life at Carrier Mills Nursing Home on the morning of April 13, 2015.
He was born Feb. 28, 1922, in Harrisburg to the late Charles and Eliza (Reid) Kielhorn.
He was a graduate of Harrisburg High School in 1940. He then proudly served his country in the Marine Corps in the South Pacific during World War II. After returning home to Harrisburg, he married Betty Jean (Harding) Kielhorn on Oct. 10, 1948. He cherished their 66 years of marriage.
Art spent his civilian life as a railroad engineer. After 33 years he was able to retire and enjoy his passions of fishing, traveling and gardening. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Harrisburg. He was an active member in the Egyptian Shrine club of Harrisburg for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Jean (Harding) Kielhorn of Harrisburg; son, Mike Kielhorn of Herod; daughter, Vickie (Kielhorn) Cowan of Portland, Ore.; granddaughter, Erin (Greg) Krikie of Junction; great-granddaughter, Jayden Krikie of Junction; two sisters, Betty Land and Joyce Farmer, along with many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Eliza Kielhorn; and five brothers, Charles, Raymond, George, Leroy and Bill.
A memorial service will be held in his honor at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 25, 2015, at the First United Methodist Church in Harrisburg. In lieu of flowers, the family requests charitable donations to Shriners Hospital, St. Louis Unit, 20015 Lindbergh, St. Louis, Mo. 63131-3597.
