Forest Service hosts Fish Tales program
With warmer weather abounding, and summer soon around the corner, the Shawnee National Forest offers a multitude of great opportunities to connect with the natural world.
Whether it is a day spent picnicking, fishing and swimming at Pounds Hollow Recreation Area, camping at Camp Cadiz or enjoying a day of hiking at Little Grand Canyon, Rim Rock or one of Forest's many other trails, there is truly something for every outdoor enthusiast on the Forest.
On April 25 the Shawnee National Forest staff want to help train your kids to enjoy the great outdoors over summer vacation with an early fishing workshop. The annual Fish Tales program is 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 25.
The event will be offered at Pounds Hollow Lake Recreation Area, providing ample opportunities to get outdoors and enjoy some great fishing. Kids ages 8 through 12 are encouraged to attend as participants will learn how to fish while also having fun through arts and crafts and more. There is no charge to attend, and fishing gear will be provided. An adult must accompany children in attendance and each family may want to bring a picnic lunch.
Rain will cancel the event. To register early or for more information, call Wendy Cowsert at (618) 253-7114.
