Prep Softball: Harrisburg, Carrier Mills-Stonefort suffer losses

The Harrisburg High School softball team stranded seven runners on base, despite coming away with just three hits in a 4-0 loss to Benton Thursday afternoon.

With the loss, Harrisburg falls to 6-6 overall and are now 0-1 in River-to-River Ohio Division play.

The loss was one that left Bulldog head coach Red Stafford scratching his head.

"Against good ball clubs, you cannot leave runners on base. We had our opportunities and didn't cash in. At some point we have to learn to take advantage of those situations."

Whitney Younger went 1-for-4 at the plate, while Mckenzie Sullivan and Brittany Hutchinson each went 1-for-3.

In the circle, freshman right hander Matty Hawkins fell to 4-5 with a seven inning performance, where she allowed four runs (two earned) on six hits, while striking out four and walking two.

"Benton is a good ball team," Stafford said. "Our problem right now is doing the little things. We're not getting our bunts down, especially with runners in scoring position and defensively, we're just making too many mental mistakes."

Harrisburg returns to action today (Friday) playing host to Hardin County at 4:30 p.m. The Bulldogs will also play host to Webster County, Ky., Saturday in a 5 p.m. game.

Crab Orchard 22, Carrier Mills-Stonefort 12

Carrier Mills-Stonefort's Lexi Winchester paced the Wildcat offense with a double and single, while Si Si Figg had a double in a 22-12 loss to Crab Orchard Thursday.

Jessica Dunn, Emily Scott, Kelsie Charley and Renata Godsey all singled.

Carrier Mills-Stonefort is 1-3 on the season and will play host to Gallatin County Tuesday.
