Du Quoin school board: Williams wins, Ward will step down to acccept city council seat

Marshall Browning Hospital nursing director Karen Williams defeated incumber Zach McPherson 1,110-958 in the race for the "in town" seat on the Du Quoin Board of Education Tuesday.

Board members Larry Valier (1,439 votes), Paul Brock (1,415 votes) and John "Sam" Vancil (1,258 votes) from outside Township 6-1 will keep their seats on the board. Challenger Doug Bishop (1,060 votes) was not elected.

Because of his election to the Du Quoin city council, District 300 board president Mike Ward will step down. Remaining board members must fill the vacancy or, as they did in the case of filling the Charles Rice vacancy, let regional superintendent Donna Boros decide.

Elsewhere Tamaroa District 5 voters elected candidates Misty Doerflein, Diedra Restoff and Jennifer Slavis to that board.

Pinckneyville Dist. 101 High School voters elected Kyle Pursell, Greg Bigham and Jennifer Robb to that board. Michelle Breslin was not elected.

Pinckneyville Dist. 50 voters elected Craig Lazenby, Scott Carney and Greg Conway to that board.

Pinckneyville Dist. 204 voters elected Darlene Vanderjack, Mary Jackson, Stephanie Waller and Janet Szczepanski to that board.
