Harrisburg Cemetery gets clipped, and paint job
Mayor Dale Fowler said Monday that young men from the Illinois Youth Center facility will be helping beautify the city's cemeteries on a regular schedule of one day a week.
It is possible the city will benefit from the labor of 29 residents at a time.
"This initiative at the cemetery will beautify the grounds and restore the tradition of painting the tree trunks up to the five foot mark. The trees will be white-washed. This renovation will be ready in time for Memorial Day, but will continue all summer and into fall," Fowler said.
Harrisburg Public Property Commissioner Wayne Horstmann and Superintendent of Streets and Public Property Rick Brown agreed the help of the IYC residents will be pivotal in accomplishing their goals.
