Prep Softball: Dogs knock off Eldorado, fall to Goreville over weekend
The Harrisburg softball team split a pair of games over the weekend, falling 8-1 to Goreville on Friday, before posting a 15-5 over Eldorado in five innings Friday.
The Bulldogs (4-2) committed five errors on the day and had just four hits against Goreville.
Freshman right hander Matty Hawkins (3-1) suffered her first loss of the year as she gave up eight runs (three earned) on nine hits, while striking out five and walking three.
Whitney Younger paced the Harrisburg offense in the lead-off position, going 1-for-2, while Mckenzie Sullivan, Abby Dalton and Jessie Bramlet all went 1-for-3.
Sullivan's lone RBI in the fourth inning drove in Younger, who led off the inning with a double off the left field fence.
In Friday's win over Eldorado, Hawkins picked up the win in the circle, going five innings and allowing five runs on one hit, while striking out eight and walking eight.
Olivia Parker took the loss for the Eagles, going four innings and allowing 15 runs on 12 hits with seven walks and just one strikeout.
Parker did have the lone hit for the Eagles, who scored one run in the fourth and four runs in the fifth.
Harrisburg struck first with a run in the first and five more in the second and followed that with a three-run fourth for a 9-0 advantage.
The Bulldogs sealed the win with a six-run fifth inning.
Gillian Jones and Bramlet were each 2-for-3, while Bramlet drove in a run.
Raelynn Boma and Sullivan were each 2-for-3 while Boma had two RBI and Sullivan drove in one.
Mackenzie Payne was 2-for-4 with two RBI and Younger finished up 1-for-1 with an RBI.
Harrisburg will play host to Hamilton County on Thursday and travel to Du Quoin on Tuesday. The Bulldogs wrap up the week at Eldorado on Friday and will be at Pope County Saturday in a round robin tournament.
