Prep Baseball: Bulldogs fall to Warren Township, Jacobs Wednesday at Doris Heights
Five errors in the last two innings didn't help out Harrisburg's cause in an 8-5 eight inning loss to Warren Township Wednesday afternoon at Doris Heights.
The Blue Devils took a 5-4 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh, but Harrisburg rallied, plating a run, before eventually falling in the extra frame.
It was a spoiled effort from Bulldog senior right hander Carson Batts, who worked six innings, allowing three runs on four hits, while striking out two and walking one.
The Bulldog bullpen did not bail out Batts as Matthew Phipps went one inning allowing two runs on one hit, while striking out one and Cooper Patterson allowed three runs on two hits, while striking out one.
At the plate, Aaron Johnson was 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI to lead the way for Harrisburg. Noah Vallette and Phipps also had a pair of hits, while Vallette drove in one and Phipps scored a run.
Austin Hefner went 2-for-5 with a run scored, while Sykes Thompson, Britton Riden and Batts all had a hit.
Bryce Emery added an RBI, while Thompson, Vallette and Emery all scored a run.
Harrisburg got on the board in the bottom of the second inning when Johnson's line drive to center field scored Emery, but Warren Township took a 2-1 lead after the top half of the third inning.
Harrisburg tied the game at two in the bottom of the fourth when Johnson drove in Vallette and Harrisburg took a 4-2 lead after five when Thompson and Phipps scored.
After seven and a half, the Blue Devils held a 5-4 lead, but Harrisburg rallied in the bottom portion of the inning as Hefner singled to right field. That was followed by a sac-bunt by Thompson, moving Hefner to second and Phipps singled to left field, moving Hefner to third.
Vallette was then intentionally walked, setting up Emery, who reached on a throwing error by Chris Mathieu at third, scoring Hefner.
In the second game of the day, Harrisburg fell 5-4 in five innings to Jacobs in a game called due to darkness.
Emery took the loss on the mound, going 2 1/3 innings, allowing five earned runs on five hits, while striking out three and walking four.
Tyler Sullivan, Patrick Bittle and Garrett Proctor all pitched in relief.
The Bulldogs had just three hits on the day with Isiah Saulsberry, Britton Riden and Batts all collecting one. Batts had an RBI, as did, Sykes Thompson, Phipps and Vallette.
Harrisburg is now 2-3 on the season and are scheduled to play Pinckneyville Saturday, starting at 11 a.m.
