Lady Yellow Jackets drop season opener

<span>Lexi Childers went 3-for-4, and Anna-Jonesboro broke open a close game with a four-run sixth inning in an 8-3 win over Chester on Tuesday.</span>

<span>Haley Middendorf went 1-for-3 with a double and two RBIs for Chester, which scored two runs in the top of the seventh. Brea Braun went 1-for-3 with a stolen base, while Karson Colvis added a double.</span>

<span>Jenna Wahl took the loss in the circle for the Lady Yellow Jackets.</span>

"A lot of it was the fact that we had not been on the field, period," said Chester coach Wade Miller. "We gave up one big inning and that's what cost us."

Both teams showed the effects of a March game, with a combined seven errors.

"We have to take ground balls," Miller said. "We were rusty."

<span>Chester will now prepare for its home opener against Randolph County rival Steeleville on Monday at the Cohen Complex. First pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.</span>
