OBITUARY: Ray L. "Sunshine" Allen

Ray L. "Sunshine" Allen, 81 of Galatia, went to be with his Lord and Savior at 7:15 a.m. on Saturday, March 14, 2015.

He was born in St. Louis, Mo., on March 9, 1934, to Ulysses and Stella (Abernathy) Allen. He married the love of his life, Shirley Nadine Maynard, on May 13, 1955. To this union was born a son, Darryl; and two daughters, Brenda and Linda.

He was a hard working man who especially enjoyed coal mining and farming. Ray was employed by several area coal mines and farmed most of his life. He was instrumental in the renovation of the Lebanon Cumberland Presbyterian Church, where he had attended for many years. In retirement, he enjoyed woodworking and his hot rod cars.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley; son, Darryl (Cindy) Allen; two daughters, Brenda (Alan) Hunt and Linda (Kevin) Edwards; five grandchildren, Aaron (Paula) Allen and Doug Allen, sons of Darryl and Cindy Allen, Brent Hunt and Brittany Hunt, children of Brenda and Alan Hunt, and Calvin (Shannon) Edwards, son of Linda and Kevin Edwards; five great-grandchildren, Jacob, Rylee and Addyson Allen, children of Aaron and Paula Allen, Brendon Hunt, son of Brent Hunt, and Britton Collins, son of Brittany Hunt; and a sister, Betty Morris.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother-in-law, Reggie Morris; and a great-grandson, Jackson Gene Edwards, son of Calvin and Shannon Edwards.

His body was cremated. There will be no public visitation or funeral services, per request. Burial will be in Lebanon Cemetery. Colonial Terrace Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
