Mayor warns of electricity salesmen

Eldorado Mayor Rocky James announced at the March 10 meeting of the City Council that law enforcement had informed him that sales people were going door to door in the city.

"They are selling the idea that citizens are paying too much for their electric. We have negotiated a very low group rate for citizens and these people, either by phone or door to door contact, are saying they can deliver even better. People should know that we have negotiated a rate of $0.04136 per kilowatt hour. That rate is guaranteed until June and Ameren may go up to $.06 in the very near future," James said.

The City Clerk has more detailed information in handout form for anyone wishing it.

In other business the council discussed cuts in the Local Government Distributive Fund to municipalities at the state level proposed by Gov. Bruce Rauner.

James said that since the city is under 5,000 population it misses many grants.

"We stay in the black unlike many small cities. It will still hurt us, but not as bad. I really don't know what we will do if the state cuts are significant," James said.

There were four structure fires, Police and Fire Commissioner Jeff Minor said.
