JUCO Softball: SIC slips by Genessee on diamond
The Southeastern Illinois Community College softball team earned a 5-4 win over Genessee Community College Wednesday.
The Falcons opened the game with a three-run third and tacked on two more runs in the fourth for a 5-0 lead and then held off a comeback by Genessee as they scored a run in the fifth and three more runs in the sixth.
Eldorado's Michaela Laswell picked up the win in the circle as she went seven innings, striking out nine and walking eight. The Falcon freshman scattered five hits and surrendered four earned runs..
At the plate, Harrisburg's Ashley Ferrell, along with Katie Prizer (Defiance, Mo.), Rebecca Touchette (Belleville), Dakota Quertermous (Marion) and Brooke Dodane (Mechanicsburg, Ohio) all had a hit.
Ferrell and Prizer each drove in two runs, while Touchette finished with one RBI.
On Monday, SIC fell 10-1 at South Suburban Community College where Harleigh Krumrey (Marion) took the loss.
Krumrey last just four innings, issuing 10 earned runs on 11 hits and walked four.
Cassandra Leuking (Woodlawn) had the lone RBI, scoring Ferrell in the fourth inning.
