Ridgway man killed in Indiana crash

A Ridgway man was killed in a crash in Posey County, Ind., 9:40 a.m. Wednesday.

Ronnie L. Ferguson, 45, Ridgway, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, Posey County Coroner Jay Price confirmed Wednesday.

Ferguson was driving west on state Route 62 between Sand Road and Raben Road west of Mount Vernon when his vehicle crossed the center line and side swiped an eastbound semi tractor-trailer, according to a release from the Posey County Sheriff's Office. The car continued west, crossed the center line again and crashed into a semi tractor-trailer head on.

Emergency medical personnel extricated both the driver and passenger and were unable to resuscitate Ferguson, according to the release.

Ferguson's passenger was taken to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Ind., with an unknown condition, according to the Posey County Sheriff's release Wednesday. Price did not know the passenger's name. Calls to the Posey County Chief Deputy inquiring of the passenger's identity were unreturned Thursday.

The driver of the second semi tractor-trailer was transported to Deaconess Hospital with an unknown condition. The first semi tractor-trailer driver refused medical treatment at the scene.

Indiana State Police, Black Township Fire and Rescue, Posey County Coroner, Posey County EMS and Indiana Department of Transportation assisted in blocking the road and reverting traffic.
