Prep Wrestling: Bulldogs qualify six for 1A Sectional

The Harrisburg High School wrestling team will be sending six wrestlers to this weekend's Vandalia Sectional.

The Bulldogs finished third as a team this past Saturday at the Carterville Regional with a team score of 124.5, while Murphysboro won the regional with a 202. West Frankfort placed second at 143.

The teams were rounded out by Carterville (117.5), Benton (116), Sparta (88.5), Pinckneyville (57), Anna-Jonesboro (40), Freeburg (22) and Red Bud (18).

Darren O'Dell (120 pounds) qualified for Vandalia after finishing third, Chandler Bowling (126) also qualified after finishing fourth.

Tyler Sullivan (132) fell to Carterville's David Luper, finishing second, while Cody Rightnowar (145) placed fourth.

Austin Lowry (160) lost to Murphysboro's Brock Barnes 7-2 in the championship to finish second, while Lucian Hicks (195) was the Bulldogs top finisher as her knocked off Murphysboro's Dehen Mulrooney in a 9-8 decision for a first place finish.

Jaxon Karnoski (220) and Chase McDaniel (285) both lost in championship bouts as Karnoski fell in a tech fall and McDaniel lost to Carterville's Derek Mann in a 4-2 decision as both picked up second place finishes.
