OBITUARY: Nola Faye Finley Loomis
Nola Faye Finley Loomis, 89 of Anna, formerly of Harrisburg, died at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 6, 2015, at Union County Nursing Home.
She was born Dec. 25, 1925, in Saline County the daughter of James and Edith (Nation) Finley. She married the love of her life Dr. Carroll Loomis on June 2, 1953.
Nola Faye was raised as a Methodist from childhood and was a secretary for First United Methodist Church in Carbondale. She graduated from high school the class of 1943 and worked her way through SIU obtaining her BS in Education and later earned her MS in Education Administration at SIU. During the course of her career she taught at AJCHS, Farina, Chicago and Atlanta. She was very active in her community and served as president for the Garden Club, Women's Club, Republican Women's Club, Leader of the Girl Scouts all of Anna. She also was chairwoman for the Red Cross Blood Mobile, member of the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill and held a lifetime membership of the PTA. She and her husband were missionaries for the Presbyterian Church in Ethiopia from 1963 to 1969, and active in the church her entire life.
Survivors include her husband, Dr. Carroll O. Loomis of Anna; one son, Benjamin K. Loomis of Carbondale; four daughters, Dr. Rebecca J. Loomis of Clermont, Ga., Dr. Sarah R. (Daniel) Mack of Grayson, Ga., Mary K. Loomis of Clermont, Ga., Kari R. Loomis of Atlanta, Ga.; two grandsons, Nicholas A. Loomis of Clermont, Ga., and Thomas E. Hedin of Atlanta, Ga.; three nieces, Gina Hill, Sherri Dawn Loomis and Rita Beth Rich; one nephew, David Rich.
Nola Faye was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Mark F. Loomis and John K. Loomis; one sister Nadine Finley Rich.
Visitation for Nola Faye will be 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2015, at the Crain Funeral Home Anna-Jonesboro.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2015, at Crain Funeral Home Anna-Jonesboro with Pastor Kerry Bean officiating. Interment will follow at Anna City Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill or Habitat for Humanity and will be accepted at the funeral home.
