Two seniors honored for 1,000 points

Darren Betz and Slayden Figg, seniors at the Carrier Mills-Stonefort High School achieved a signal event at the GEC Tournament at Southeastern Illinois College on the night of Monday, Jan. 26.

Both young men went over the 1,000 point mark in their high school basketball career.

Both these players are avid sportsmen and have been competing on baseball and basketball teams for most of their scholastic careers.

On Tuesday night, Coach Geoff Absher presented the athletes with commemorative basketballs before the opening of the varsity basketball game in the Carrier Mills-Stonefort gym. During the game at SIC last Monday, Figg was first to break the 1,000 point mark in the third quarter of the game. Betz followed shortly after in the fourth quarter.

"I didn't really know that I had broken a 1,000 points," Betz said Tuesday before the award.

"I kinda thought I was getting close," Figg said. "The way the crowd was acting every time I took a shot at the goal."
