Enjoy creole music, cuisine at SIC
Dennis Stroughmatt with Creole Stomp returns to Southeastern Illinois College on Sunday as part of the Cultural Arts Series.
The concert begins at 2 p.m. SIC will provide creole food during intermission.
Stroughmatt is widely known for his expertise in Cajun and French Creole music. Creole Stomp is a five-piece band including drums, guitar, accordion, fiddle and other percussion instruments. They play Louisiana zydeco and Upper Louisiana creole music.
He has described the music as "an ever-evolving gumbo." Some in the audience may want to get up and dance.
Each performance includes some explanation of Cajun and Creole culture. Holding a master's degree in history from SIU, Stroughmatt enjoys sharing stories with the audience.
Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for students, at the door. Those with questions may call the college at 252-5400, ext. 2486, for further information.
