CASA is looking for a few good people

Saline County Court Appointed Special Advocates is looking for caring people to volunteer to be advocates for disadvantaged children.

CASA of Saline County is an organization which provides advocates in the legal system for abused, neglected or abandoned children who are in the county court system.

"We are currently servicing 57 children with 29 volunteers," said Trina Irwin, local CASA Director. "We have 10 cases outstanding with no advocates, that's anywhere from one to 20-plus kids that need help."

Irwin stated that CASA provides free training for all volunteers and "desperately" needs more help from the community.

"People think that it's hard to do, but it's really not," Irwin said. "Just 10 to 20 hours a week and someone can really make a difference in a child's life."

CASA plans to hold a training session at their office in the basement of Old National Bank 5:30 p.m. March 23. Anyone interested in helping is strongly encouraged to come by the office or call 618-253-3355 for more information.

"It's not hard, a person just needs to be passionate about caring for the best interests of children," Irwin stated.
