OBITUARY: George W. Aud

George W. Aud, 83, formerly of Equality, passed away Nov. 1, 2014, in New Port Richey, Fla.

His last wishes were to have his ashes combined with his best friend, Sherman, his loyal companion for over 16 years and then scattered along the Saline River in Gallatin County. There will be a family memorial in early spring.

George was born in Omaha on March 29, 1931, to Josephine (Harrelson) Aud and Lawrence Joel Aud. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Joseph Thomas Aud; wife, Cecilia Schiff; and sister, Verta Marie Witherell.

He graduated from Equality High School in 1949. Over many years of his life he worked on several farms in construction; most notably, dam construction and clearing land in Ft. Breckenridge, Ky., and as a patrol officer in Orange, Texas, where beforehand he achieved a patrolman license from Texas A&M. He was also a law officer in Equality for a brief period before undertaking his final career path in coal mining. He worked in many coal mines throughout the area including his last two of Belle Rive and Equality Mining Company near Cottage Grove Cemetery.

He was first married to Delores McClanahan in 1954. They had two surviving daughters, Deborah Bartok of Harrisburg and Mary Louise Holm and her husband Roger of DeLand, Fla.; and a surviving son, Joel Glyn Aud and his wife Jennifer live in Port Richey, Fla. George had one grandson, Bryant Bartok; and one great-granddaughter, Sarah Graves of Harrisburg. He is also survived by two sisters, Irma Virginia Lappin of Harrisburg and Ella Louise Reid and husband Daryl of Marion; two nieces, Sandra (Jim) Genet of Eldorado and Susan (Richard) Reynolds of Hopkinsville, Ky.; two nephews, J. Scott (Debbie) Aud of Harrisburg and David M. (Treva) Aud; and sister-law, Virginia Aud of Equality; also three great-nieces; and four great-nephews.

George married Cecilia Schiff (Ridgway) (died May 14, 2014) in February of 1964. They were married for over 50 years. They had a good life together and eventually moved to Florida due to illness of both. In their last days together, they went swimming on Clearwater Beach, Fla., also attending were Mary Holm, Jennifer and Joel G. Aud. They had a wonderful time and George swam in the ocean twice with his wife and family. He loved the water from being a lifeguard while in high school to fishing in lakes, rivers and oceans. He will be missed by all that knew and loved him.
