West Frankfort 62, Eldorado 61 OT

ELDORADO - Eldorado head girls basketball coach Scott Artman called it one of the best games his team has played all year.

That game was the result of a 62-61overtime loss to West Frankfort Thursday at Duff-Kingston Gymnasium.

"This was the proudest I have been of the girls all year, considering all that happened and the things we had to overcome."

One of which Artman said was playing a considerable portion of the second half without Dresdyn Bramlet, Paige Zertuche and Jaclyn Artman, who were all saddled with fouls and forced to sit the bench.

The other may have been trying to overcome the performance of West Frankfort's Morgan Griffith, who went to the free throw line 23 times Thursday.

"We had a couple of breakdowns in the second half," Artman said. "But perhaps what I am most proud of is how we never lost momentum when I substituted."

Abby Steed and Brookln Peavler both returned to the lineup for Eldorado, boosting their chances heading into next week's Eldorado Mid-Winter Holiday Tournament.

Steed led the Eagles with 15 points, while Caitlin Stafford and Takiya Britton also finished in double figures as both tacked on 13 points.

Zertuche chipped in with seven points, while Riley Duckworth finished with five points, while Bramlet and Artman each had four points.

West Frankfort muscled its way to a 12-9 first quarter lead, but Eldorado rallied in the second stanza to go up 23-19 at the half. The Eagles held a 38-28 lead through three quarters before the Redbirds knotted the game at 52-all at the end of regulation.

The Eldorado junior varsity basketball team picked up a 34-31 win over West Frankfort.

Eldorado returns to action Monday at Vienna High School and will play host to Carmi-White County Thursday. The Eldorado Mid-Winter Holiday Tournament gets underway Saturday.
