Prep Girls Hoops: Harrisburg pulls out first conference win
It wasn't easy Wednesday night inside Davenport Gym, but the Harrisburg Lady Bulldogs picked up their first SIRR Ohio win with a 73-71 overtime victory over Herrin.
The Lady Bulldogs (10-7, 1-4) got 29 points and seven 3-pointers from Alexa Burtis.
Kelsy Hobbs was also in double figures with 16 points, including nine in the extra frame.
HHS had built a 15-point lead entering the fourth quarter, but saw Herrin (10-8, 0-5) and Madison Lequatte force overtime with a basket to end the period.
At one point, it looked like the Tigers were on their way to their first conference win.
Herrin led 68-63 with a minute left in overtime before Hobbs connected on a trey. Burtis then followed that up with a steal and a 3-pointer herself to put her club in front.
Harrisburg was playing for the first time in 10 days. It was also the first game for head coach Jake Stewart since his father passed away.
"Our defense was good for three quarters. They put a press on us and we haven't practiced much in the past 10 days with some unfortunate things happening, and we haven't been in the gym, and I think that kind of hurt us. We're just happy to get out of here with a win," said Stewart.
The Lady Bulldogs travel to Gallatin County Thursday night and then host Union County, Kentucky Saturday afternoon.
