Prep Girls Hoops: Eagles roll to win over Galatia

The Eldorado High School girls' basketball team put three players in double figures in a 57-41 win over nearby rival Galatia-Thompsonville Monday night.

Paige Zertuche scored a game-high 24 points, while Caitlin Stafford tacked on 12 points and Jacqlyn Artman added 10 points for the Eagles, who evened their record at 7-7.

Riley Duckworth chipped in with seven points for Eldorado, while Olivia Parker and Takiya Britton both had two points

Galatia-Thompsonville (1-12) got a team-high 19 points from Elizabeth Sloan, while Becky Gregory and Kassidy Rizor each had eight points. Kennedy Harris finished with four points and Shelby Beckman had two points.

Eldorado jumped out to a 15-6 lead and led 21-14 at the half.

The slow start was something that Eldorado head coach Scott Artman fully expected.

"We hadn't played a game in nearly two weeks and I knew we would come out flat. We just didn't move our feet very well. We tried to get things going by creating some turnovers, but we were slow defensively."

Eldorado played without Brooklyn Peavler and Abby Steed. Peavler is out with mono, while Steed had an MRI conducted Monday. Neither are expected to join the team in time for Thursday night's game at home against West Frankfort.
