OBITUARY: Lela Bishop

Lela Bishop, age 71, died Thursday, Jan. 1, 2015, at the home of her son Bryan Deitz after an extended illness.

Lela was born in Broughton on Nov. 2, 1943, to the late James and Edith (McKenzie) Allen. Lela was a hair dresser most of her life. She had been very active in the Anna Bixby foundation for many years, loved her dogs, roses, birds and wildlife. She always was happy when her children were little and all the neighborhood kids were at her house. She was a very loving, fun and happy person. Her smile would always make your day brighter. She will be missed.

Lela is survived by her husband, Larry Bishop of Shawneetown; a son, Bryan (Barbie) Deitz of Murphreesboro, Tenn.; two stepsons, Aaron Bishop of Florida and Brett Bishop of Carmi; a stepdaughter, Lari Anne Head of Texas; two brothers, Jim Allen of Norris City and Lonnie Allen of Indiana; eight grandchildren, Cori Adams, Aaron Bishop, Harper Head, Guideon Head, Rachel Bishop, Kyle Bishop, Brittany (Dan) Schultz and Brooke Tripp; a great-grandchild, Chloe Adams.

She was preceded in death by a step son, Chris Bishop.

Visitation for Lela will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 5, 2015, at the Cox & Son Funeral Home in Shawneetown. Her funeral service will immediately follow starting at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Larry Lewis and the Rev. Jack Hall officiating. Her interment will follow at the Albion Cemetery near Norris City.

In lieu of flowers the family ask that donations be made to the Caris Hospice of Tennessee or the First Baptist Church in Shawneetown. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
