OBITUARY: James H. Figg
James H. Figg, age 90, passed away 11:57 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 1, 2015, in the Illinois Veterans Home in Anna.
James lived in Carrier Mills until his health declined and he moved to the Autumn Ridge Assisted living in Vienna.
He was born in Shelburn, Ind., on Aug. 23, 1924. His parents were the late James E. and Edith Harriett Miller Figg. He married Norma Lee McAtee on July 8, 1945, and she preceded him in death on Dec. 23, 2010. James was a World War II Army Veteran and a retired coal miner. He was a member of the Carrier Mills First Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School for several years. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge in Linton, Ind.
James is survived by a son and daughter in law: Steve and Linda Figg of Stonefort;
two grandchildren: Stephen Scott and Rhonda Figg of Stonefort and Jason Douglas and Stacy Figg of Tomball, Texas; three great-grandchildren: Slayden James and Sienna Rene' Figg of Stonefort, and Burke Brittiain of Tomball, Texas.
James was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; brothers: Jack Ashcraft, Harold Ashcraft; and a sister: Mildred "Midge" Ashcraft Neidige.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 4, 2015, at the Absher-Nicholson Funeral Home in Carrier Mills. The Rev. Harl Cockrum and the Rev. Ryan Beck officiated. Friends called after 11 a.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. Burial was in the Salem Cemetery. In respect to the wishes of the family, expressions of sympathy should take the form of memorials to the Carrier Mills First Baptist Church Building Fund.
