Trailer overturns, spills load

The trailer of a semi-tractor trailer overturned on state Route 34 at the Raleigh curve blocking both traffic lanes for several hours Tuesday.

The highway was blocked from shortly before noon until just after 4 p.m.

Illinois State Police are investigating, but the shift sergeant at the ISP District 19 post in Carmi had no details Tuesday evening. KFVS news reported ISP said Michael J. Dawe, 48, Thompsonville, was driving east on state Route 34 when he drove off the right side of the road for unknown reasons, continued off the road and hit an embankment. The trailer overturned and spilled its load.

Dawe was not injured and was cited on a charge of improper lane usage, according to KFVS.
