OBITUARY: Jean Hammond

Mrs. Jean Hammond, 79 of Temple Hill, passed away on Monday morning, Dec. 29, 2014, at the Southgate Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2014, at Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home in Metropolis with the Rev. Mike Hardison officiating. Burial will follow in Temple Hill Church Cemetery.

Jean was a member of the Dixon Springs Baptist Church and the Metropolis Eastern Star. She enjoyed traveling and gardening and was a devoted mother and wife.

Jean is survived by her husband, Elmer L. Hammond; five children, Pam Adams and husband Derek of Golconda, Rick Hammond and wife Treva of Eldorado, Debbie Ford and husband Fred of Indianapolis, Ind., Sandra Gentry and husband Benny of Metropolis and Rod Hammond and wife Dustie of Brookport; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one sister, Gloria Stacey and husband Don of Glendale; one brother, Eddie Mayhall and wife Betty of Temple Hill; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert Warren and Ethel (Barger) Mayhall; granddaughter, Erin Catherine Ford; one sister, Joyce Wiseman; and three brothers, Albert, Otto and Lucian Mayhall.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until the funeral hour Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2014, at the Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home.
