OBITUARY: Jay Flanders

Jay Flanders, 73, of Sevierville, Tenn., formerly of Carlyle and Eldorado, died Friday, Nov. 7, 2014.

He was born June 11, 1941, at home in Eldorado, son of Harry and Bernice (Porter) Flanders. He married Gloria Jean Shoemaker in 1997, in Centralia, and she survives in Sevierville.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Flanders is survived by a sister, Maryann Haswell of Nashville, Tenn.; a son, Robert Jay Flanders of Mt. Vernon; two daughters, Sandra Kay Clanin and Sherry Rae Flanders, both of Mt. Vernon; a granddaughter, Samantha Lynn Clanin of Mt. Vernon; and numerous stepchildren and stepgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mr. Flanders attended grade school and high school in Eldorado. He then attended Southeastern Community College, Southern Illinois University, and DeVry Technical Institute in Chicago. He went on to retire from teaching electronics technology at Kaskaskia College in Centralia after 30 years.
