OBITUARY: Earl Ray Edwards

Earl Ray Edwards, 79, of Omaha, passed away at Ferrell Hospital in Eldorado at 12:26 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2014.

He was born in Harrisburg on Oct. 7, 1935, the son of Herdis C. and Ethel M. (Sarver) Edwards. He married Susan Mitchell on Aug. 20, 1954, and they had celebrated their 60th anniversary this August.

Ray was a lifelong farmer in the Omaha area. He was a Army reserves veteran and attended the Omaha General Baptist Church.

Ray is survived by his loving wife, Sue Edwards of Omaha; one daughter, Lesa and husband Wade Newton of Ridgway; one son, Bruce and wife Karen Edwards of Omaha; five grandchildren, Misti and husband Jeff Jackson, Katy and husband Chad Naas, Jaclyn and husband Nick Hunt, Kory and wife Racheal Newton, Emily and husband Jeremy Browning; and seven great-grandchildren, Lucas Jackson, Aven Scala, Claire and Caroline Hunt, Jasper Newton, Lydia and Lucas Browning.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one granddaughter, Shanna Rae Edwards; one sister, Dorothy J. Poole; and one brother, William L. "Bill" Edwards.

Visitation for Ray will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 14, 2014, at the Vickery Funeral Chapel in Omaha. Funeral service will be at the funeral home at noon on Saturday, Nov. 15, 2014, with the Rev. Blaine Felty officiating. Burial will follow the funeral service at Palestine II Cemetery near Omaha.
