Heisman Trophy Watch: All eyes on nephew of Donna Piper and late Jim Piper of Elkville

West Virginia University's 31-30 loss to Texas Christian University Saturday was disappointing to Clint Trickett, nephew to Donna Piper and the late Jim Piper of Elkville, but with 18 touchdowns and 2,925 yards offense this season alone, he's the best quarterback in the Big 12 and the No. 2 quarterback in the country in total offense.

That puts him at No. 8 on the Heisman Trophy Watch list.

His grandparents were the late Morris and Genevieve Eaton. His parents are Tara (Eaton) Trickett and Rick Trickett, assistant head coach and offensive line coach of the national champion Florida State Seminoles.

He's thrown 32 touchdowns in his career and has 5,477 yards offense.

He played backup quarterback for Florida State his first three years, graduated in three years and transferred to West Virginia University to work on his Masters Degree.

In collegiate football he has extraordinary star power and the honors just keep coming.

He was two-time Big 12 Player of the Week, is ESPN's three-time helmet sticker recipient, was two-time Davey O'Brein Quarterback of the Week, Manning Star Quarterback of the Week and Athlon National Player of the Week.

He is currently up for the Davey O'Brein Quarterback of the Year Award and fans can go to www.voteobrein.org to log in to vote for Clint and get information about that award.

USA Today lists him as No. 8 on their Heisman Trophy Watch.

Saturday wasn't a great day for either team.

West Virginia had just 121 yards of offense in the second half. Trickett finished 15-of-26 for a season-low 162 yards. He threw two interceptions. Kevin White, West Virginia's 1,000-yard receiver, was limited to three catches for 28 yards. But, there are great days still ahead of him.
