Prep Football: Bulldogs' season ends in loss to Carbondale
The 2014 football season for the Harrisburg Bulldogs came to a close with a 35-20 loss at the hands of visiting Carbondale Friday night at Taylor Field.
Sean Crisenbery ran for 139 yards and two touchdowns, but the Terrier rushing attack was too much to overcome.
Sidney Ousley enjoyed a big night with 157 yards and two touchdowns. Carbondale (1-8) also got 146 yards and a touchdown from sophomore Djimon Slaughter. As a team, Carbondale racked up over 400 yards on the ground.
"We knew Carbondale was very athletic and played a good schedule in a tough conference," said Harrisburg coach Jason Roper. "I will give our kids credit though. We battled and didn't quit and I could not have been happier with the effort."
Harrisburg never had the lead and trailed 14-7 at halftime, but an interception return for a touchdown early in the second half helped Carbondale secure the win.
The Bulldogs used junior Noah Vallette at quarterback and he completed seven passes for 74 yards with an interception.
Corbin Crim caught five balls for 64 yards.
Tylor Marler ran for 50 yards, and Lucian Hicks added 48 yards and a score.
HHS ended the season with a 2-7 record and dropped its final four games. It also means the Bulldogs won't be in the playoffs for the second straight year, but just for the third time in nine seasons under Roper.
"I thought two games kind of changed our season," said Roper. "Obviously the 6-0 loss at Du Quoin might have changed things had we won one early in the season, then we had won a couple games and had that 13-9 loss at home to Benton."
The two victories is the fewest for a Harrisburg club since 2002, and HHS will lose 10 seniors to graduation.
