VOLLEYBALL: Herrin spoils Senior Night at Du Quoin

Du Quoin rallied to within a point after trailing by as many as eight in the second set, but couldn't get over the hump against visiting Herrin on Senior Night as the Lady Tigers escaped with a 25-15, 25-23 victory.

Kenzie Jackson led the Lady Indians' offense with four kills, Grace Haney had two. Amanda Atteberry finished with a team-high in digs with ten, Emily Born had eight, and Jordyn Bullar added six. Alaina Caldwell scored four assists.

"Amanda Atteberry rolled off seven straight points to bring us to within one, but they broke our serve at 23-22," said DHS head coach Jo C. Dill. "Emily Born stepped in for Hope Fenton who suffered a concussion against Nashville and played a really solid game. I hated for Hope to miss Senior Night, but we're hoping to have her back for Regionals."

"Atteberry had a great game defensively as libero and serving. I wish they could have got the W, but I'm happy with their play. Hope is a huge part of our offense, so I was pleased at how close they came without her."

Du Quoin plays at Steeleville on Thursday night in their regular season finale. The Lady Indians will then host their Class 2A Regional beginning on Monday with a 6:00 p.m. match against Sesser-Valier. The winner takes on Albion (Edwards County), the Regional's top seed, on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. The Regional championship will be held Thursday, October 30 at 6:00 p.m.
