Du Quoin school board approves truck purchase, retirement and boys basketball assistant coaches
The Du Quoin Evening Call on Friday fully explained a proposed School Facility Tax Proposal, which was the substance of much of Thursday's Du Quoin Board of Education meeting.
The board discussed the possible uses of the tax in accordance with the law and how it could assist the district in lowering the district tax rate and address the on-going maintenance of school facilities. At the next board meeting the board will discuss specific district uses that can be potentially addressed by proceeds from the tax.

The FY 2014 audit was presented to the board by Don Hoffman of Emling and Hoffman, district auditors. The audit included no findings with the district continuing to demonstrate practices in accordance with acceptable accounting standards. After the review the Board approved the FY 2014 district audit as presented.
The Board approved a request from the High School FFA group to attend their national convention to be held in Louisville, Ky.
The board approved the re-scheduling of the November board meeting due to schedule conflict to Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2014.
The board authorized the administration to enter into a finance agreement for the purchase of a 2014 Chevrolet regular cab two-wheel drive utility truck through Chip Banks Chevrolet to be used for district maintenance purposes.
The Board entered into executive session at 7:35 p.m. to discuss the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees. The Board returned to regular session at 7:43 p.m.
The Board accepted a letter of intent to retire from Rhonda Jones as high school mathematics teacher effective Dec. 31, 2014.
The board employed the following to extra-curricular positions for the 2014-2015 school year: Matt Foster as high school assistant boys basketball coach and Jacob Emling as middle school assistant boys basketball coach and 5th/6th boys basketball coach.
The board approved the winter extra-curricular activity volunteer list as submitted by the high school athletic director.
