GOLF: DHS's Ferguson earns trip to State

Du Quoin senior Marisa Ferguson will be heading to Decatur for this weekend's IHSA Class A Girls Golf State Final Tournament after shooting an 81 to advance from Tuesday's Sectional at Franklin County Country Club in West Frankfort.

Ferguson shot 38 on the front nine, 43 on the back nine, and finished tied for seventh overall at the Sectional, fourth among golfers not on an advancing team.

Pinckneyville's Trista Ogilvie (90) and Ellie Carlson (95) failed to make the cut of 84 strokes.

The three teams to advance from West Frankfort are Belleville Althoff, Eldorado and Massac County. Eldorado's Taylor Goodley shot 71 to take the overall medalist award by three strokes over her sister Ashton Goodley (74).

The Class A Girls State Final Tournament is held at Red Tail Run Golf Course. Ferguson will tee off on the tenth hole at 10:36 a.m. on Friday for round one.
