EHS Art Club peddles painted pumpkins for charity
Vincent Van Gough was known to trade small paintings for meals.
Some say he never sold a painting while he lived.
The Eldorado Art Club is taking a cue from the troubled master and trading painted pumpkins (they last longer than carved pumpkins) through the weeks until Halloween. Many orders have been filled online. The price is $10 per work of art.
Cartoon characters are a favorite subject with Sponge Bob being the most eye-catching example.
The recipient of the funds raised by this sale is the annual Christmas Food Drive that the art club sponsors each yuletide.
Last year they raised enough to provide 35 families with food baskets and gifts.
Art instructor and club moderator Jeff Cox has a daughter, Taylor, in the club.
She chose to paint her pumpkins as Cheshire Cats.
One student created a cupcake pumpkin that looked good enough to eat. A "Minion" from the movie "Despicable Me" was on display at the Eldorado High School cafeteria Wednesday. The student artists started this project Oct. 1. Last year they sold 80 painted pumpkins.
The pumpkins will be shown at the high school's open house 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21.
Orders can be placed by calling the Eldorado High School at 273-2881. Ask for the art department.
