Prep Golf: Thrice As Nice
On a damp, dreary day - and at times in a downpour - the Eldorado girls golf team navigated Franklin Country Country Club in conditions not ideal for golf.
The Eagles sledged through the muck and looking to capitalize on their first place showing just a week ago on the same course in regional play, Eldorado settled for second place.
Belleville Althoff took first place with a team score of 325 at Tuesday's IHSA Class 1A Girls Golf Sectional in West Frankfort.
Eldorado, who fired a 325 to win the school's first ever golf regional a week ago, finished with a 334 Tuesday and Massac County shot a 344 and will advance to the Decatur and Red Trail Run for the 10th consecutive year.
After winning medalist honors with a 4-under 67 a week ago, Taylor Goodley took the top spot again, this time shooting a 71.
On a day that was described as playing in a car wash on rinse cycle, Goodley will make her fourth appearance at the state tournament. Eldorado, as a team, will make their third straight trip.
Goodley qualified as an individual her freshman year, but knows playing as a team makes her senior season all the worthwhile.
"You play all year as a team and getting to the state tournament together is what this experience is really all about," Eldorado head coach Greg Goodley said. "Our girls all put together a good round, handled the rain and now get the enjoyment of what comes from their hard work."
Ashton Goodley finished second overall with a 74, while Taylor Aldridge fired an 89.
Jacqlyn Artman shot a 100, while Sydney Tate took a 101 and Kileah Lowery added a 110.
Goodley noted that in what will be the Eagles' third straight trip to state is something he's knows is a "fortunate situation."
"It's a nice accomplishment, but to get to the state tournament three years in a row, is special. You always want to see the hard work you know the girls have put in, get something out of it. We're fortunate in that regard."
