OBITUARY: Shirley Fletcher

Shirley Fletcher, age 52 of Thompsonville, passed away at 11:20 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2014, at her residence.

Shirley was born on Aug. 17, 1962, in Harrisburg to Donald Lester and Virginia (Childs) Dunning. She was raised by her mother Virginia York and stepfather, Paul York. She married Pat Fletcher on Dec. 22, 1979, and he preceded her in death Aug. 2, 2007. She was a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) and attended Ebenezer Community Church.

Survivors include her son: Jeremy and wife Brandi Fletcher of Galatia; her daughter: Jessica and husband Paul Whittaker of Crab Orchard; four grandchildren: Macey Fletcher, Mariah Fletcher, Peyton Whittaker and Paige Whittaker; her mother: Virginia York of Galatia; and five brothers and sisters: Mary Powell of Galatia, Ruth Stricklin of Galatia, Wayne Dunning and wife Margie of Galatia, Steve Dunning of Galatia and Tina Hutchinson and husband Roy of Raleigh. Several nieces and nephews survive.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Pat Fletcher; and stepfather, Paul York.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, 2014, at Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg. Burial will follow in Ebenezer Cemetery near Thompsonville. Visitation will be held 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3, 2014, at Reed Funeral Chapel. Memorials may be made to CASA and/or Hospice of Southern Illinois. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
