Prep Soccer: Harrisburg hammers Herrin

A five-goal performance from Carver Gregg and a hat trick from Cody Morris led the Harrisburg High School soccer team to a 9-1 victory over Herrin Tuesday night.

Harrisburg (12-2) put up seven goals in the first half en route to the win that head coach Mike Stewart called "dominating"

"We played some good pass and possession soccer (Tuesday)," Stewart said. "Our guys do a great job of working together as a team and I am very pleased with the way we have come together as a team. The cohesiveness and gelling is part of what has brought them this far."

Britten Riden, the Bulldogs' backup goal keeper to Ryan Cowsert, played his first full game at the varsity level as Cowsert was out with a hand injury.

Riden saved two goals, allowing one, in picking up the victory.

In the 32nd minute of play a foul was committed in the box, giving Herrin a penalty kick and the opportunity to put a point on the board, but Britten stepped up the challenge and blocked the kick.

"In the last two games, Britten has done a great job of stepping up and completing the task," Stewart added.
