Prep Golf: Solid Showing
The Harrisburg High School boys' golf team turned in one of their most impressive performances this fall by finishing second at the Marion Invitational last week.
The Bulldogs tied Massac County with a 301 for first place, but lost in a tiebreaker for the top spot.
Centralia (315), Mt. Carmel (323) and Marion (333) rounded out the top five, while Mt. Vernon (346), Benton (348) and Herrin (356) completed the team scoring.
Harrisburg's Ben Fowler took medalist honors with a 71, while Ryan Williams won a playoff for fourth place after firing a 74.
Garrett Jenkins carded a 77 for the Bulldogs, while Patrick Bittle finished with a 79 and Bryce Beal shot a 101.
Our boys did great," Harrisburg head coach Michael Tison said. "They focused better than I have ever seen them do for all 18 holes. They all made a couple of small mistakes, but they did not let anything bother them and grinded out some great scores."
