Indian Pride weekend, budget, parents dropping children off at football games discussed by board

The Du Quoin Board of Education Thursday expressed concerns about parents dropping children off at Du Quoin football games and leaving them there largely unsupervised. The solutions are a work in progress, but parents need to be more responsible with respect to parents leaving their children at games unattended.

The meeting began at 6:30 p.m. an included approval of the 2014-2015 budget, which will be the subject of upcoming stories. There was no public comment at the hearing.

The building principals reviewed their respective school improvement plans. After review, the Board approved each school's improvement plans.

The board approved the board policy updates/changes as recommended by Illinois Association of School Boards policy services

The Superintendent gave an update on "Indian Pride Weekend" events that will be taking place October 3rd through . The newspaper is preparing a detailed story about that weekend for publication this week.

The board entered into executive session at 7:36 p.m. to discuss the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees. The board returned to regular session at 8:03 p.m.

The Board employed the following as Arrow Academy program personnel for the 2014-2015 school year: Classroom Teachers - Deziree Williams, Jennifer Craft, Jennifer Bunton, Mandy Davis, Jessica Craig, Erin Cook, Lanae Leposky, Jessica Holland, Kati Pierceall, Jean Ann Mathis, Missy Montgomery, Jennifer Davis; Enrichment Teachers - Laura Krone, Sarah Phipps, Larry Alvarado, Lea Anne Templeton, Amanda Casey, Candace Manning; Aides Vanessa Campbell, Robin Roach, Tara Pyron, Connie Heisner, Tamara Elswick, Melissa Tilley, Sarah Hunter, Stephanie Presswood, Darla Hunter, Guy Brosch, and Amanda Thompson; Cafeteria Aide - Kathleen Malinski; Program Secretary - Sarah Carter; Site Coordinators - Debbie Denton and Peg Pursell.

The board approved David Gross as a volunteer aide for the high school Technical Career course and Noah Coleman as a volunteer for the Speech Team and Drama/Theatre program.
