Prep Volleyball: Bulldogs pull out brooms
The Harrisburg High School volleyball team broke a two-game skid in knocking off West Frankfort in straight sets Tuesday night, winning 25-21 and 25-23.
"Tonight was a big win for us," Harrisburg head coach Heather Cox said. "A win in Game 2 is big for us and the mental status of our team. We needed to do what we did tonight. The girls have struggled winning that second game and overcoming a slight run by West Frankfort in the second game was big. It will hopefully be a big confidence booster for this week and future games."
Cox applauded the efforts of Audree Morecraft, whom she said played a great game for the Bulldogs.
"She passes well and is an offensive threat on the front row that we need."
Whitney Younger returned to the lineup after missing a game due to a knee injury.
"Whitney is a great player but even more than that she is a great leader."Cox said. "Her being on the court gives the team a much needed confidence."
JV wins in straight sets
The Harrisburg junior varsity team also won in straight sets, taking down the Redbirds 25-17 and 25-17.
Despite six missed serves, an aggressive offense from Toni Crisp and Ally Langley, along with some quality passing from Lexee Fulkerson and Gillian Jones helped Harrisburg.
