Service on Du Quoin and Pinckneyville councils, Perry County board has second income opportunity
Serving on the Du Quoin or Pinckneyville City Council or the Perry County Board of Commissioners is about public service or "giving back to the community," but it's also about a modest second income.
Du Quoin commissioners receive $57.69 a week ($3,000 a year) to serve and $65.00 per meeting ($1,560 for 24 meetings during the year). There is also a small contribution paid in to IMRF retirement.
Mayor Rex Duncan receives $80.77 per week as mayor ($4,200 a year) plus $75.00 per meeting ($1,800 for 24 meetings).
In Pinckneyville, Mayor August Kellerman receives an annual salary of $9,000 paid monthly and commissioners are paid $7,500.
Each of the three Perry County Board of Commissioners members receive $14,500 annually
Candidate petitions for the 2015 election in the City of Du Quoin and the City of Pinckneyville will be available beginning Sept. 23, 2014.
Du Quoin commissioner candidates run at large. Pinckneyville commissioner candidates run for specific seats.
In Du Quoin, potential candidates may obtain the necessary papers to run at the office of City Clerk Brad Myers on or after that date.
Candidates for all offices must complete a statement of candidacy, obtain at least 18 signatures of registered voters in the City limits and complete other minor paperwork. Petition packets must be filed at the City Clerk's office beginning Dec. 15 and running through Dec. 22 during the hours of 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Du Quoin will elect a mayor and four city commissioners to four year terms on April 7, 2015.
