Prep Volleyball: Bulldogs bounced by Marion

Mistakes and a struggling mental game led to a sweept by Marion Tuesday night at Davenport Gymnasium in prep volleyball action.

The Wildcats knocked off Harrisburg 25-20 and 25-18 as the Bulldogs fall to 2-5 on the year.

On the flip side, Harrisburg head coach Heather Cox said consistent serving (just one miss) kept Harrisburg in the game.

Senior Libero Haley Price served for nine points along with making some great passes , while Senior Audree Morecraft served eight points for the game and contributed to the Harrisburg offense and defense.

"The first game we had great passes and sets, but struggled with hitting early on," Cox said. "The second set we struggled with passing which took away our offense. Marion took advantage ofour mistakes. We dug ourselves a hole in both sets and couldn't dig our way out. We've got to keep positive energy on the court to build each other up after mistakes and the mental toughness to climb out of those valley."

The junior varsity club also lost in straight sets, falling 25-10 and 25-20.

Harrisburg sweeps Galatia

The Harrisburg High School volleyball team rebounded from last week's loss to Carrier Mills-Stonefort, knocking off Galatia in straight sets Monday night.

The Bulldogs rolled to a 25-16, 25-17 victory on a night when Harrisburg head coach Heather Cox said a lineup changes proved to be the difference.

Sophomore setter, Jessica Scwhartz started for the first time tonight and didn't disappoint for Cox.

"Her setting was pretty spot on and led to some big time kills front Matty Hawkins (five kills) and Whitney Younger (seven kills). Younger played a very smart game tonight moving the ball all over Galatia's court. A few too many missed served were committed, but overall it was a good game for us."

Galatia head coach Melinda Teal's team finished with 10 kills and seven aces on the night.

"We struggled defensively and we couldn't get in a consistent defensive rhythm."

The Harrisburg junior varsity team also won in straight sets, beating the Bearcats 25-16 and 25-17.

"Ally Langley (junior) played an all around great game to help win the match for the junior varsity," Cox added. "Her sets and front row play were big along with her great serving (scoring the first 12 points of the first match with her serving). Sophomore, Lexee Fulkerson, made some great plays in the back row. "
