Prep Girls Golf: Eldoardo takes third at Massac County Invite

Staff Report

METROPOLIS - It was an early season test for the Eldorado High School's girls golf team Saturday in the 7-team Massac County Invitational.

And considering the Eagles had a "number of things they couldn't get going," according to head coach Greg Goodley, the showing for him was "respectable."

The Eagles finished third, firing a 343, five strokes off the lead of Belleville Althoff, who finished with a 338.

Massac County took second in their own invite with a 340, while Cape Notre Dame finished fourth with a 343, followed by Herrin 365, Nashville (383) and Marion (424).

Ashton Goodley tied for first, but lost in the playoff on the second hole, finishing her day with a 73.

Taylor Goodley, who sprained her ankle Thursday, carded a 79 and Taylor Aldridge finished with a 92. Jacqlyn Artman had a 99 for the Eagles, while Sydney Tate finished with a 101 and freshman Keeley Tate had a 113.

"Ashton played a solid round," Goodley said. "We had a number of girls that couldn't get things going today, but they battled to have a better second nine, which allowed us to shoot a respectable score."

Eldorado is now 18-2 on the season and will return to action Tuesday at home against Zeigler-Royalton and then play in the Anna-Jonesboro Invitational Wednesday.
