Ray Edward Stanley

Ray Edward Stanley, 86, of Du Quoin, passed away at 3:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, 2014 at the Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau, Mo.

Ray had worked for U.S. Gypsum. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and had received seven medals including the Purple Heart.

He was born Sept. 8, 1927 at Du Quoin, Ill., the son of Martin Edward 'Ed' and Letha Jane (Kelley) Stanley.

He is survived by two children - Melissa Quaite and husband Dave of St. Louis, Mo. and Ed Stanley of Du Quoin, five grandchildren - Michael Huff, Kelli Johnson, Abigail Johnson, Joshua Johnson and David Quaite III and one sister - Dorothy Rice of Du Quoin.

He was preceded in death by his parents and six siblings - Imogene Stanley, Russell Stanley, Delmar Stanley, Clifford 'Dale' Stanley, Ralph Stanley and Floren Stanley.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 7, 2014 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Joe Wagner officiating.

Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.

Burial will be in the Old Du Quoin Cemetery at Du Quoin.

Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Du Quoin V.F.W. and American Legion and the Army National Guard.

Friends may make memorials to the family and will be accepted at the funeral home.
