Indian football fans to celebrate the Elverado connection Friday

The Football Indians kick off a new season Friday at VanMetre Field, celebrating the start of the new Du Quoin-Elverado football co-op.

To say the least fans on both sides of the county line are excited. The Gatorade game was packed and many Elverado fans have already purchased season tickets.

Elverado night at VanMetre Field will feature tailgates and an Elverado BBQ sale and silent auction. Elverado staff members will staff the concession stand on the Highland side and keep the profits from that stand to benefit their own programs. Du Quoin and Elverado cheerleaders will lead fans in joint cheers.

Elverado coach Matt Blaise has signed on as a Du Quoin assistant coach, paid for by the Elverado HS.

Elverado players will not be singled out for introductions, but all starting players--regardless of school--will be introduced.
