OBITUARY: Lawrence Marcum

Lawrence Marcum, 76, of Lincoln, formerly of Harrisburg, died at 8:15 a.m. Wednesday, Aug, 13, 2014, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

He was born July 12, 1938, in Pathfork, Ky., to Starlin and Edna Taylor Marcum.

Survivors include his companion, Betty Harlow of Lincoln; five sons, Jeff (Pamela) Marcum of Harrisburg, Chris (Samantha) Marcum of Chicago, Toby (Diana) Marcum of Harrisburg, Rodney (Companion: Angelina Fonseca) Marcum of Harrisburg and Michael Marcum of Denver, Colo.; three grandchildren, Jacob, Collin and Lena; two brothers, George (Charlene) Kelly of Tazewell, Tenn., and Zora (Angie) Marcum of Black Snake, Ky.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Loretta LaMar, Jennie Sexton and Blanche Saylor; and one brother, Jasper Marcum.

Lawrence was a member of First United Methodist Church in Harrisburg. He was an active power lifter and holds two state records in bench press.

He retired 1993 from Peabody Coal Mine in Shawneetown, where he worked as Third Shift Mine Supervisor. He also was a long time employee at Southeastern Illinois College in Harrisburg.

A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday at the First United Methodist Church in Harrisburg.
