OBITUARY: Carl David "Flash" Griffiths

Carl David "Flash" Griffiths, age 84 of Harrisburg, passed away at 7:56 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2014, at Harrisburg Medical Center.

Carl was born on Oct. 2, 1929, in Williamson County, to the late David and Emma (Uhe) Griffiths. He married Hattie Imogene Cox on March 12, 1955, and she preceded him in death, July 30, 2011. He was a United States Army Veteran with service during the Korean War. Carl was a superintendent for Sahara Coal Company for many years. He was a member of Dorrisville Baptist Church where he was a Sunday School Teacher and an Upwards Basketball Coach.

Survivors include a daughter: Karen Susie Lampley and husband Danny of Harrisburg; four grandchildren: Matthew Griffiths and wife Missty, Michelle Griffiths, Damon Lampley, and Douglas Lampley and wife Stephanie; eight great-grandchildren: Darren Lampley, Brandon Lampley, Natalie Lampley, Gretchen Lampley, Sydney Lampley, Chance Lampley, Maggie Griffiths and Thomas Griffiths; and several nieces and nephews.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents, wife Imogene, son: David Griffiths, daughter: Carla Weikert, and brothers, Paul Griffiths, Richard Griffiths, and sisters, Wilma Morgan, Nora Orto, Juanita Spencer, Emma Zechini, Mary Bennett and Olive Griffiths.

Funeral services will be held at noon Saturday, Aug. 9, 2014, at Dorrisville Baptist Church in Harrisburg. The Rev. Dewayne Taylor will officiate. Burial will follow in Sunset Garden Cemetery in Harrisburg, with Military Rites by the Harrisburg American Legion, Carrier Mills VFW and the Marion National Guard. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Aug. 9, 2014, at the Dorrisville Baptist Church in Harrisburg. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois, the Carmi Baptist Children's Home or Dorrisville Baptist Church's Upwards Basketball Program and envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
