GOLF: Pavloff, Ferguson finish summer season strong

Du Quoin junior golfers Marisa Ferguson and Kolton Pavloff wrapped up the summer golf season with solid finishes at the SIGA Junior Golf Tour Players Championship. The event was held on Monday at Rend Lake Golf Course in Ina, IL.

Ferguson posted a score of 84 and finished in second place, good enough for her to finish in first place overall in the Junior Golf Tour Player of the Year points standings for girls age 16-18.

Pavloff finished in a tie for third place after turning in a score of 74 and finished second in the points standings for boys 16-18 behind champion Andrew Simpson.

"I was very satisfied with my round today," Pavloff said. "I hit 15 greens in regulation and was consistent off the tee. I had a lot of fun out there today. It's been a very solid summer. It's too bad it has to end. I'm going to miss playing against the guys that are in their final year of junior golf. Hopefully we'll meet up again in college competition."

The juniors shift gears now as the high school season kicks off in a couple of weeks. "The summer just flew by," Pavloff noted. "I am playing well right now so I really don't want a break in the competition."

However, Pavloff is looking forward to the high school season. He says it requires a little different approach. "High school matches are played after school and are only nine holes. If you make a bogey, there are not as many holes to make it up. You have to be more aggressive."
