Children's clothing accepted Monday and Thursday
An initiative called Reaching Out to Clothe Kids - a cooperative effort of the Harrisburg First Presbyterian Church and the Fowler-Bonan Foundation "Clothes for Kids" program - announced today two upcoming collection dates as well as a community-wide distribution date.
"The program was created for those who have (outgrown) children's clothing that they want to donate to a needy child," said coordinator Danielle Camp, a member of the church and also a volunteer with the Fowler-Bonan Foundation. "Both the church and the foundation see this as a meaningful outreach to help under privileged kids, and we have been very pleased with our results to date."
Clean, gently-worn children's clothes, of any size, may be dropped off at the Harrisburg Presbyterian Church Annex - the former "Track 21" building - at 21 West Locust, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 7. Items accepted include pants, shirts, shoes, and coats suitable for kids in kindergarten through 12th grade.
Camp also announced that a community-wide distribution date has been set for Saturday, Aug, 9 at the church annex, from 9 a.m. until noon.
Fowler Bonan Foundation co-founder Dale Fowler said his organization was happy to team with the Presbyterian Church with the project, and encouraged community support for the drive.
"We have collected a lot of very nice clothing, and are thrilled that the clothes will go to help families in need," Fowler said. "We encourage those with clothing to drop off their items to us Monday or Thursday, and of course those in need to come see us at the annex on August 9."
Parents need not bring their children on Aug. 9, but will be asked to complete a brief informational survey. There will be no income-verification procedure, but parents are asked to remember that the clothing is limited, not all items are available in all sizes, and supplies are limited to that which is on hand. Also, per-child distribution limits will be in place.
