Creal Springs man killed in Friday crash

A Creal Springs man was killed in a crash Friday on state Route 13 half a mile east of Harco Road Friday morning.

According to a release from the Illinois State Police at about 7:45 a.m. Friday Lance P. Avery, 60, Creal Springs, was driving a motorcycle in the right eastbound lane on state Route 13 and Kim H. Fowler, 68, Harrisburg was driving a sport-utility vehicle behind Avery. Avery slowed down and turned the motorcycle into the left eastbound lane at the same time Fowler drove in the left lane. The front of Fowler's SUV struck Avery and his motorcycle on the left side, the release indicates.

Avery was pronounced dead at the scene due to his injuries. He had been wearing a helmet. Fowler reported no injury.

State Route 13's eastbound lanes were closed until about 2 p.m. with a detour arranged on old Route 13.

Bishop's Towing removed both vehicles and the Saline County Coroner's Office, Saline County Sheriff's Office and Saline County Ambulance Service assisted.

No charges had been filed as of Friday.
