OBITUARY: William E. McCabe
William E. McCabe, age 94 of Creal Springs, died at 11:30 a.m. Monday, June 23, 2014, in the Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion.
He was born on July 2, 1919, in Williamson County to Hugh and Iva Felty McCabe. He married the former Beverly Kelley in 1979 and she survives.
Bill worked for McDonald-Douglas in his early career and designed the seats for the first Mercury Space craft. He taught both at the college level and high school level and retired from teaching at Vienna High School. While he loved teaching he also loved the farm. He loved to raise a big garden and take what he reaped to church and give it away.
He was a member of the St. Francis DeSales Catholic Church in Stonefort. The church was such a big part of his life. He loved St. Francis DeSales and served as sexton of the cemetery for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly; a sister, Margaret Mossman of Equality; brothers, Joseph P. (Alice) McCabe of California and Hugh McCabe Jr. of Tinley Park.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Don, Ann and Robert.
Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 26, 2014, in the St. Francis DeSales Catholic Church in Stonefort with Father Tom Barrett officiating. Burial will be in the St. Francis DeSales Catholic Cemetery at New Burnside. Friends may call at the church after 9 a.m. Thursday.
The family request flowers please be omitted and memorials be made to the St. Francis DeSales Cemetery in his memory. Envelopes will be available at the church.
